WE PAY ATTENTION TO HOW NATURE CLEANS AND INTERACTS IN ORDER TO MANUFACTURE OUR PRODUCTS

Research

At the R&D department, we develop new products by combining clean technologies and environmental biotechnology. In addition, we create strategies to improve the performance and quality of our existing products.

Our goal is to solve satisfactorily the identified problems in different industrial sectors, thus contributing to the sustainability of our environment.

OUR INVESTMENT IN BIOTECHNOLOGY

Vision

A&B’s committed investment in biotechnology has made it possible to locate microorganisms in nature with a degradable and reproductive capacity in order to convert them into raw materials.

This way, we replace the hazardous chemical ingredients which were predominantly present in traditional products, thus, we prevent chemical pollutants in the specific product as well as in its residues and we obtain safer products. We get this not giving up on effectiveness.

Improvement strategy

Projects

Since the beginning, we develop different research projects and collaborate with different organizations to, through ecoinnovation and ecodesign, create more effective and safer products than traditional ones.

Thanks to all this, we have been able to collect natural microorganisms for diverse industrial applications, generate biodetergents that include decontaminating microorganisms, and provide ecological alternatives that favour the balance of the ecosystems affected by industrial activities.

Alliances

Our main collaborators/alliances are listed below:

Ihobe, Euskalit, UPV, Tecnalia, IK4, Izaite, Kimika, Innobasque, Alianza Alavesa por el Desarrollo Sostenible.

LIMPROB Project

Project executed in the 2019-2020 biennial focused on the research and development of our new cleaning products with a biological nature, formulated with probiotic microorganisms active in the prevention and development of fungal biofilms.

Project carried out in collaboration with the Gaiker Technological Centre, a centre that is a member of the BRTA alliance. The project has been subsidised by the Aid Programme to Support Business R&D – HAZITEK, an initiative co-financed by the Basque Government and the European Union by means of the 2014-2020 European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and also by the Alava Innova Aid Programme co-financed by the Provincial Government of Alava and European Regional Development Fund.

This project is aligned with the RIS3 Smart Specialisation Strategy in Euskadi by applying biotechnology in the Smart Industry sector and also contributes to the following SDGs: SDG-3 Guarantee a healthy life and promote well-being,  SDG-9 Promote innovation, SDG-8 Promote sustainable economic growth, SDG-12 Responsible production and consumption.

BIOTRACA Project

The aim of this Project is to develop new products based on biotechnology for the optimal degreasing of the scale sludge from the iron and steel industry, facilitating its recovery and thus preventing the environmental and economic impacts caused by this waste. The project was carried out with the collaboration of the Tekniker Technological Centre, which is a member of the BRTA alliance

The project has been subsidised by the Aid Programme to Support Business R&D – HAZITEK, an initiative co-financed by the Basque Government and the European Union by means of the 2021-2027 European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and also by the Alava Innova Aid Programme co-financed by the Provincial Government of Alava and the European Regional Development Fund.

This project is aligned with the RIS3 Smart Specialisation Strategy in Euskadi by applying biotechnology in the Industrial Eco-innovation sector with the aim to contribute to zero waste, circular economy and the following SDGs: SDG-9 Promote innovation,, SDG-8 Promote sustainable economic growth and SDG-12 Responsible production and consumption: (see article)

PRONANO Project

Project executed in the 2020-2022 triennial, in collaboration with the company Burdinola and the Tekniker Technological Centre, a member of the BRTA alliance, whose aim is the research and development of new ecological cleaning products, with specific properties to prevent the proliferation of bacteria and improve the effectiveness of the cleaning on the surfaces in laboratory facilities.

This project is aligned with the RIS3 Smart Specialisation Strategy in Euskadi by applying technologies with biotechnology and nanotechnology in the Smart Industry sector and likewise contributes to Goal 9.4 on the adoption of clean technologies based on SDG9 for Innovation and Industry.
